Dr. Richard P. Haugland, Ph. D.

Director- Starfish Country Home School. Founder of Molecular Probes, Inc.

Dr. Haugland received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Stanford University. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, he was a professor of chemistry at Hamline University. While at Hamline, he and his wife Rosaria started Molecular Probes, Inc., which became a very successful biotechnology company. The company was sold to Invitrogen in August 2003. Since then he has concentrated on philanthropic activities, particularly in education and medical support areas in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. In 2005, he founded and usually resides at the Starfish Country Home School, a free home and school for needy children outside Chiangmai Thailand.
